Dictator’s burn books to try and censor the information their people have access to. Books contain lots of information and ideas from different points of view. They burn books with the intent to destroy all information from any viewpoint but their own. When burning books, they risk losing precious information including scientific and cultural advancements. When books are burned, the information inside goes with them. Burning books has a far greater impact than banning books. When people see a soldiers throwing books into a raging fire in a public space, this intimidates them much more than a rule written on paper.
Adolescents face many contradictions in their lives, but there is one that is far greater and more obvious than all of the others. Teenagers in high school are expected to raise their hand and ask to go to the bathroom, and then a few months later are expected to pay their own bills and take care of themselves while in university. The main part of high school is to prepare students for university, and one of the main components of university is learning to take care of yourself. Due to this relationship, it seems obvious that high school students should be taught how to pay bills and how to take care of themselves, but instead, they are taught to raise their hand to ask for permission to use the bathroom.
Without books, life would be very different. Literacy rates would be non existent, as no one would be able to read or write. Without books, it would be very difficult for knowledge to spread, and gradually, the amount of knowledge of the world would diminish. If we were reliant on word of mouth for knowledge to spread and our memories to store information, many of the advancements we have made in science and in our studies of history would be forgotten.
